Team of the Week : Weeks 6 & 7

In News by Abigail ThellussonLeave a Comment

It’s been a busy 2 weeks for Cambridge athletes; with victories both home and away, the Light Blues are wrapping up this season in style. Make one team’s Bridgemas weekend by voting them Team of the Week here…

After a bitter defeat to Loughborough the week before, the Men’s Badminton Team showed their true colours in a closely contested match against the University of Kent, beating them at home 5-3. The women’s team should also be commended, as their win made this the first double victory for the first team squads this season.

Men’s Basketball

There’s been two consecutive victories for the Men’s Basketball Team; in Week 6 a tight and tense match resulted in the Blues beating Oxford Brookes, and this week they sought a more comfortable victory. They certainly delivered – as illustrated by the 73-33 scoreline against the University of Hertfordshire. These wins bring the team out of the relegation zone in their Midlands 1A league.

Men’s Hockey

In week 6 the Blues humiliated Canterbury Christ Church University , denying them any goals and scoring 13 themselves. They faced slightly tougher competition this week against Bournemouth University but still kept a clean sheet, resulting in another impressive score of 9-0. Meanwhile, the Women’s Seconds unsettled the O*ford 3rd team, beating them 3-1.

Women’s Rugby Union

It just wasn’t Bournemouth University’s week; the Women’s Rugby Union 1sts also thrashed their 1sts 114-0 in a ruthless display of skill that sets them up confidently for the Varsity match in a couple of weeks. The week before they had a convincing victory over the University of East Anglia, beating them 61-0. With a 297 point lead over Nottingham, who are second in the BUCs lead, the Blues are looking untouchable.
